Album Review
REO Speedwagon began to come into its own with its third album, Ridin' the Storm Out. Over the years, the record became a platinum-seller, due to the strength of their series of opening shows for more successful rock acts, but it originally charted at number 171. While the group still had elements of their bar band boogie, they began to streamline their approach on this album. Although it only resulted in one minor hit, with the title track scraping the bottom of the singles charts, the record was one of their most consistent efforts.
Customer Reviews
Best REO
I went many years without this music, but after previewing each song, I had to purchase the entire album because there is not one song that does not ROCK. Get it.
Classic Speedwagon
I really enjoyed this album, even though I only have heard tracks 1, 2 , and 9. The vocalist is different here; it's not Kevin Cronin, so if you are a fan of his, then you may not like it. The title track has some epic guitar work that was never really displayed in later albums. Overall, I'd give this album a 8.5 out of 10. The missing 1.5 % is the singer's voice. It can be annoying sometimes.
No Kevin, ahhhh
The best part of this album is, no Kevin. I heard he pulled a power play and walked out, so they hired Michael Murphy (not the Wild Fire one)
to replace the vocals. That's the short of it, and this album a timeless classic.
