Although Houston may not be dominating the rap scene like it was a few years back, there's still an abundance of quality MCs who call H-Town home. Lil Keke has been doing his thing since the ‘90s, working extensively with DJ Screw as a member of the Screwed Up Click and finding his first taste of crossover love with the 1997 single "Southside." On Ridin’ Wit Da Top Off, Vol. 1, he delivers 18 tracks that flawlessly combine melodic Texas hip-hop and ultra smooth R&B. The production here is stellar, bubbling with chill synths, live instrumentation, and deep low-end, setting the perfect, low-key stage for Don Keke to sound off about balling out of control and getting freaky with the ladies. Ideal for fans of Nate Dogg, Devin the Dude, and the late, great Houston hero Big Moe, this is perfect music for rocking in the candy-painted Coupe, doing 5MPH through town and watching the ladies come out in droves.
