Customer Reviews

This is great

Not your typical megadeth because the song "I'll be there" is alot softer then most megadeth, but I appreciat the meaning

Different, but not bad

They named this album "Risk" for a reason. Megadeth took quite a risk by going in a different direction with this album. The normal Megadeth speed/thrash is nonexistent here. Fans of "Rust In Peace" will be shocked at how slow "Risk" is. But the more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. There are definately some good songs here. "Insomnia", "Prince Of Darkness", "Breadline" are all songs worth checking out. Both "Time" songs give me the chills. Listen to them closely and think of how true they are.

Forget that its Megadeth and give it a fair listen

Obviously, long time Megadeth fans would be surprised when they first popped this into the player...it happened to me. However, the iTunes review is right in that it's not a complete departure from its two predecessors (Youthanasia & Cryptic Writings). There is a bit more of pop feel on some of the songs that you may have never expected to hear on a MD album but hey...they took a RISK and you can't blame them from wanting to explore a little bit, besides what's more metal than pushing the boundaries every once in awhile? After the inital shock. give it another listen and I bet you'll find something special about it. The song writing, melody, and hooks are still there and the production is pretty slick.

Though Megadeth followed the basic blueprint of Metallica's relentless attack, Mustaine's group distinguished themselves from his earlier band by lessening the progressive rock influences, adding an emphasis on instrumental skills, speeding the tempo up slightly, and making the instrumental attack harsher. By streamlining the classic thrash metal approach and making the music more threatening,...
