Album Review

Even though this was supposed to be a new project for three-fourths of Screeching Weasel (including singer/songwriter Ben Weasel), there are hardly any distinctions between the Riverdales and their previous incarnation. The songs are slower and longer, but there are some catchy standouts like "I Think About You During the Commercials" and "Back to You."

Not Screaching Weasel

I disagree with the main review that the Riverdales are only vaguely different than Screeching Weasel. The Riverdales sound abandoned the hardcore influences of earlier Screeching Weasel in favor of a Ramones-core styling and the songs are more upbeat in theme and lyrical content than most of Screeching Weasel's snotty and hyper cynical songs. The best way I can describe this album is 90s pop-punk and garage rock production values meet '77 punk instrumentation.

The Riverdales were formed by Ben Foster (aka Ben Weasel), Dan Schafer, and Dan Sullivan — all from the classic punk band Screeching Weasel — in 1995. Paying tribute to the genius of the Ramones, the Riverdales kick out some catchy, straight-up punk rock & roll on their singles Back to You and Fun Tonight. The band's self-titled debut, produced by Mass Giorgini and Green...
