iTunes Review
The legendary organist, producer, and founder of Booker T. & The MGs follows-up 2009’s GRAMMY-winning Potato Hole with the heavy groove of The Road from Memphis. The road is indeed a funky one with Jones’ trademark Hammond B-3 sounding as warm and rich as ever. He’s supported by the gritty and versatile band the Roots, an inspired collaboration all around. ?uestlove’s drumming is rock solid and funky throughout, going above and beyond on “The Hive” and “Everything Is Everything.” Leon Hubbard’s mesmerizing bass line on “The Vamp” and additional guitar work from the great Dennis Coffey of the Funk Brothers are just a few of many sublime moments. Jones’ touch and unique phrasing are irresistible on the slinky cover of Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy” and the soulful instrumentals “Walking Papers,” “Rent Party,” and “Harlem House.” There are vocal cameos from Sharon Jones and the National’s Matt Berninger on “Representing Memphis,” Jim James (Yim Yames) of My Morning Jacket on “Progress,” and Lou Reed on the “The Bronx.” Tough and timeless, The Road from Memphis is a real gem.

Soul Cooking Funk
Down home Southern cooked funk with some dope covers of Biz Markie and The Roots. Throw in some Sharon Jones and you've got yourself a winner. Thank you for keeping this type of music alive. I'm hoping there are 12"s or 45s of the singles!
