iTunes Review

Disappointed that Kiss’s first two albums had failed to produce a chart hit, Casablanca label head Neil Bogart assumed the producer’s role for Dressed To Kill. Bogart gave the band’s sound a much-needed facelift: the production here is brighter and sharper, and the tempos faster — a contrast to the muddy rhythms of the first two albums. Paul Stanley’s “Room Service” is a whip-smart opener, while Gene Simmons’ “Ladies In Waiting” presents a tight, furious groove. Both songs revel in Kiss’s growing reputation as groupie hounds, and with Dressed To Kill the band’s reputation for offstage hedonism became as much a calling card as their trademark face paint. The album also contains some of Ace Frehley’s finest work. As a songwriter he contributed “Getaway” (featuring a Peter Criss vocal), and his solos never fail to create the flashpoint that sends songs like “Ladies In Waiting” and “Love Her All I Can” into overdrive. The grinding “She” became a favorite among metal diehards, but it was the closing track that captured the band’s essence. With “Rock and Roll All Nite,” Bogart didn’t just get his hit single; he got a rock anthem for the ages.

Full Speed Ahead to Alive

This album is a great studio effort by a great live band, and if you like any of these songs, go straight to Alive, do not pass Go, do not collect $200....

Best KISS studio album.

Dressed to Kill is easily KISS' best studio album of the make-up era and for my money their best studio album period. This is the one KISS studio album that can stand up solely on the merit of it's music. There really isn't a bad track throughout. Unlike the debut album or Hotter Than Hell, the studio versions of the songs on this album are every bit as good as their live counterparts. Dressed to Kill sounds like a band hitting their creative stride. Sadly, KISS hit their stride with this album only to abandon it a short while later. Highlights of the album are Love Her All I Can, Room Service, and Two Timer.

Biography

Formed: 1973 in New York, NY

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '70s, '80s, '90s, '00s

Rooted in the campy theatrics of Alice Cooper and the sleazy hard rock of glam rockers the New York Dolls, Kiss became a favorite of American teenagers in the '70s. Most kids were infatuated with the look of Kiss, not their music. Decked out in outrageously flamboyant costumes and makeup, the band fashioned...
