Album Review

Sony Music's "Essential" series of limited-edition two-disc compilations of major artists has been well-assembled generally, and Ozzy Osbourne's increased celebrity following the success of the "reality" TV series The Osbournes justifies his inclusion, as does his string of multi-platinum albums dating back to 1980. The 29-track collection presents most of the highlights of his solo career, from Blizzard of Ozz to Down to Earth, including such U.K. and/or U.S. hits as "Bark at the Moon," "No More Tears," "Perry Mason," and "Mama, I'm Coming Home," as well as the Grammy-winning live version of "I Don't Want to Change the World." Missing from the song list are such favorites as "Shot in the Dark," a Top 20 U.K. hit that made the Top Ten of Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart, and "Back on Earth," another major Mainstream Rock hit; both tracks can be found on the 1997 hits collection The Ozzman Cometh. And "Close My Eyes Forever," Osbourne's duet with Lita Ford, which was a gold-selling single and made the Top Ten of the Hot 100, is not in the Sony vaults and was not licensed. So, The Essential Ozzy Osbourne is not the perfect two-CD sampler of Osbourne's solo career. But it is a very good one, and new fans attracted by the TV show who wonder what his music is like will get an accurate representation of it here.

Don't Listen to that Nicole person

Ozzy Osbourne is one of the best ever artists. Personally, I prefer Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, Paranoid, Bark at the Moon, Mama I'm Coming Home, and and Flying High Again. Ozzy has an awesome voice, and Randy and Zakk are great on guitar.

But this chick Nicole completely dissed him, calling him a wacko and saying LOL. Wow. What a jerk! This is the only real music she reviewed too! All her other reviews are about Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus, the Jonas Brothers, and Demi Lovato. These people have no singing talent and Nicole gave them all 5 stars!

Vote this review as helpful to stop Nicole from reviewing anything else.

GOD OF METAL

i use to like a lot of rap and hated rock and metal until i heard ozzy's music ozzy turned the way i listen to music now i cant get enough rock annd metal and hate rap ozzy is a god!!!!!

Great for Beginners of Ozzy.

Ozzy's Essential collection album is full of his biggest hits (Excluding Shot in the Dark). For anybody who is beginning with this record I commend you. This record is a great start for beginners because it has all the big hits such as Crazy Train, Over the Mountain, Bark at the Moon, and No More Tears. This album also contains some of Ozzy's more forgotten tracks like Rock N' Roll Rebel, Miracle Man, and the very underrated ballad see you on the other side. Overall anyone who is interested in Ozzy's music should pick this up because you will be satisfied with all the tracks on this album.

Biography

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

Though many bands have succeeded in earning the hatred of parents and media worldwide throughout the past few decades, arguably only such acts as Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, and Marilyn Manson have tied the controversial record of Ozzy Osbourne. The former Black Sabbath frontman has been ridiculed over his career, mostly due to rumors denouncing him as a psychopath and Satanist. Despite his outlandish reputation, however, one cannot deny that Osbourne has had an immeasurable effect on heavy metal....
