iTunes Review

Joshua Radin strips down some songs from his celebrated 2010 album, The Rock and the Tide, making for an intimate recording. “Streetlight” opens by swapping out piano for an old wooden guitar, over which Radin’s whispery croons resonate with an immediate and upfront presence. As if the album version of “You Got What I Need” wasn’t hushed enough, this translation sounds like he’s cautiously playing with the utmost library etiquette. Without the snappy drums and the bouncing bass heard on the album, the threadbare acoustic session rendition of “The Ones with the Light” plays almost like a completely different song, as delicately picked arpeggios accompany Radin’s tell-you-a-secret singing style. Without the pulsing electro flourishes and pumping rhythm, this piano-and-guitar adaptation of “Here We Go” sounds less suited for the mall and more conducive to café dwelling on a rainy autumn day. Similarly, when the pedaling post-punk-inspired rhythms are subtracted from “We Are Only Getting Better,” it becomes a lilting serenade. Radin bookends with the soulful non-album track “I Missed You.”

Customer Reviews

A bit disapointing

I was very excited to hear Joshua Released an acoustic EP version of the Rock and Tide. The album I don't like as much as his previous albums because it's missing songs which only feature Joshua and his guitar (with the addition of some some backing instruments). It's more of a pop album.

So this acoustic version gives exactly that what I missed in the original "Rock and Tide", but still it's missing the warm feeling that I got from for example his album"We were here" or the acoustic version of "They bring me to you". I still love it tho, but it's not as good as his previous acoustic releases.

This is what we've been waiting for

Joshua - Thank you to responding to your fan's demands and coming back to your roots. You sound wonderful! You do not need production like the original album supporting you - YOU are the star. The review that I wrote on here for the original release is the most liked review for the album so obviously I'm not alone, here.

This is on repeat in my house. I pray that your next album resembles this. I'm enjoying looking at your brush strokes again! Thank you!

Though Joshua Radin enjoyed singing during his childhood, the Cleveland native never intended to be a professional musician. Instead, he studied drawing and painting at Northwestern University, following his college years with stints as an art teacher, screenwriter, and art gallery employee. Eventually, Radin took a stab at songwriting and played one of his earliest compositions, "Winter," for his friend Zach Braff. The burgeoning actor/director took an immediate liking to the song, and "Winter"...
