iTunes Review

Back in the mid-‘90s, Daryle Singletary seemed destined to duke it out with Tim McGraw for the top spot among male country singers. After his initial run of hits, though, the smooth-voiced Georgian seemed to lose his stride. If Rockin’ In the Country isn’t a full-fledged comeback, it does reaffirm this affable artist’s virtues. His warm and resonant style works best with themes of everyday love and heartache. Singletary musters up a George Jones-like sense of domestic tragedy in “How Can I Believe in You” and “Real Estate Hands,” underscoring the tormented lines with well-placed baritone moves. He’s also good at lighter, sweeter fare like “That’s Why God Made Me” and “Background Noise,” and the rollicking “They Know How They Grow ‘Em” and the title song (featuring Charlie Daniels on fiddle) are credible stabs at radio-friendly upbeat tunes. Rock on, Daryle, but please keep the ballads coming.

I have been a Daryle Singletary since he first showed up on the national scene in the 90s. Every album he puts out there is better than the next. I don't know if it is because they are truely better than the ones before or because, with each year that passes and the addition of so many new but forgettable voices in country music, Daryle's unique, smooth, COUNTRY voice and delivery style of true country music becomes a rarer commodity and a country fan's treasure. All the Daryle Singletary music I have is like my premium stash of great, true country music and sits in the same category for me as George Jones and other true country greats. Great job on this one Daryle! I still haven't got to see you live, but I'm lookin.

Would have been a Platinum Seller in 1990

Daryle not only delivers some of his best vocals ever, but keeps it real with that traditional sound he will never betray. Due to this very reason, Daryle will probably never enjoy a higher level of stardom than he's already achieved. I believe he will be a cult hit 20 - 30 years down the road, much like Vern Gosdin and George Jones are to my 30 something generation.

Neo-traditionalist singer Daryle Singletary was among the brightest new stars to arrive on the contemporary country scene of the mid-'90s, winning fans with his simple, honest songcraft and distinctively gravelly vocals.
