Album Review

From a lyrical perspective, 1991's Roll the Bones is quite possibly Rush's darkest album (most of the songs deal with death in no uncertain terms), but from a musical point of view, the record treads territory (highbrow melodic hard rock) similar to its recent predecessors, with only a few surprises thrown in for good measure. These include an amusing rap section in the middle of the title track, a welcome return to instrumentals with "Where's my Thing?," and one of the band's finest songs of the '90s in the gutsy "Dreamline." "Neurotica" is another highlight which lives up to its title, and though their negative subject matter can feel stifling at times, fine tracks like "Bravado," "The Big Wheel," and "Heresy" feature wonderful melodies and arrangements.

Get Serious

....."a true rush fan would not like this album", I think not. A true Rush fan will embrace this album. A true Rush fan already owns this album. By far, Roll The Bones is in the top 5 albums by Rush. Simply put, this is one of those rare albums that you can listen to from start to finish. Play it on shuffle or straight up...no matter man! My favorite track is Ghost of a chance...you listen you decide.

If you don't like this Album you don't like RUSH!

Ok, Yes Moving Pictures, Permanent Waves, and 2112 May be the best Albums RUSH has ever done but each RUSH album is Unique in it's own right. It is not fair to compare this album to one like Moving Pictures because they are two totally seperate albums. It is like comparing a Classic GTO to a Yugo, they are just not the same! So instead of comparing this or any other album to each other give each album the respect they deserve. I think this is a very good album by far not their best but it has a place of honor in my collection! Here is to 30 more Years RUSH!!

It's official...it's a classic

Okay folks. I'm disagreeing with most of you that wrote a review. This album was originally released in 1991 in the face of the grunge movement and I'll admit it took some getting used to. That being said it is an amazing piece of work. Songs like The Big Wheel, Dreamline, Roll the Bones, and Bravado are of course amazing. But songs like Ghost of a Chance and You Bet Your Life often go overlooked. It's not fair to judge this against earlier works and that can be said of any artists albums. They grow, change, and mature as artists so not everything is going to be Moving Pictures.
