iTunes Review

The title track to Los Campesinos!’ Romance Is Boring is so purely Los Campesinos! — punchy, acerbic, gleeful — that it stands as the record’s centerpiece. But opener “In Media Res” has an experimental essence, and its unhurried blend of blaring horns, glittering glockenspiel and synth swells herald an evolutionary jump: the Welsh indie darlings brazenly push their own boundaries on album number three. Their website claims Romance Is Boring is about “the decay of the human body and mental breakdown,” but we’d swear it has more to do with twenty-something angst, beer, and — the newest ingredient — reluctant maturation. It’s that newest flavor that adds depth and dimension to tracks like the playful and tense “We’ve Got Your Back,” the mighty mini-epic, “I Warned You: Do Not Make an Enemy of Me,” and the harrowingly beautiful “The Sea Is a Good Place to Think of the Future.” (We detect Jamie Stewart of Xiu Xiu — one of several guests — on this powerful track).  With even sharper lyrical barbs and new musical reach, Romance Is Boring belies its title, with glorious spit and vinegar.

A few things

Firstly this album is absolutely brilliant. In fact, it's probably LC!'s best. But I'd like to point out some fallacies in a previous review by TheIndiePirate. Firstly, Aleks left the band after recording this album, so the female vocals on here are hers. Second, Gareth's lyrics are never sarcastic, especially not on this album. He gets rather irate at people believing his words to be sarcastic. There is incredible openness and sincerity in every verse.

Simply Amazing!

I must say i was quite sad when i heard in '09 that Aleks Campesinos! had left the band. I then thought that this album would be well not as good as their others because Aleks was no longer there to do back up vocals. I couldn't have been more wrong. This album is simply amazing. Filled with wonderful melody's over typical punk-rock chords over Gareths amazing/sarcastic/metophoric lyrics. A definite 5/5

Wow

More depressing but also more beautiful. They've come a long way since "You, Me, Dancing." not that I don't adore that song...
