Customer Reviews
The wrong flavor
Mr. Neher's interpretation of Dragonetti's Waltzes demonstrate some wonderufl virtuoisty but a lack of finesse and elegance these works require. His approach is quite agressive and sounds forced, more over the constant slapping of the fingerboard from low string tension is inexcusable and detracts from the effects of the works.
Best out there
Neher's approach on these pieces is by far superior to anyone's out there. The fact that he takes etude material and turns it into concert music for all listeners, not just bassists, making it accessible and listenable, proves his talent and creativity transcends those nay-sayers who are stuck in another era where bass is "not an expressive" instrument. The nuance provided in these performances is not found in any other performer! Considering these are the only recordings of these pieces, immense credit should be paid to Mr. Neher and his dedication to bringing unknown works to the stage.
