iTunes Review

Former frontman for the Babys, Bad English and solo hit-maker (having topped the charts with “Missing You” in 1984) John Waite doesn’t seem to have aged much over the years. From his youthful good looks on the cover of 2011’s Rough & Tumble to the barebones rocking tones of the opening title-track, Waite wears his years well while keeping true to his musical roots — and his voice can still hit those high notes with ease. The mellower “Evil” ushers in some rootsy old organ notes as Waite simmers his voice down to sing with restraint about giving in to romantic temptation. With ample help from Luis Maldonado and Kyle Cook (Matchbox Twenty), “If You Ever Get Lonely” revisits the power-ballad formula that made “Missing You” and “In Dreams” so popular. Though not as strong as the aforementioned tunes, this song sounds like Waite flirting with his past without trying to relive it. His take on Tina Turner’s “Sweet Rhode Island Red” is a tastefully ramped-up version with engaging interplay between ZZ Top-toned guitar growls and a grinding Hammond organ.

He's Back!!!!

It's nice to hear some new stuff from John. Good rock album. Nothing like that classic rock sound.....Nice job John!!

what a songwriter

John is one of the most underrated songwriters, in my humble opinion. THis is a great new album -- he sounds even more soulful now. I'd recommend you go check out some of his other stuff, beyond the 80s and "Missing You." Seriously good music. One of John's older songs inspired me to start writing again, so maybe I'm a bit biased. :-) Rock on, John! Come back to DFW anytime.

The voice is back!

John Waite's music and lyrics have been infused into my bloodstream since before I could drive. There is not a day that goes by that I don't listen to his work, and I am here to tell you, this album is the best I have heard since John Waite's work on the album "Broken Heart" released by The Babys in 1977. Congratulations John Waite! True, you are one of the most underrated musicians in the business, and you have struck gold with this new release. Your artistic integrity has never been stronger! I Hope you make it to San Francisco soon for a live show. Thank you for continuing to amaze me.
