J. Holiday-Round 2
Holiday returns with his sophomore album that is being released off of one single, an interesting move by the label. The soft smooth vocals of Holiday return with less grit and more croon.
It’s Yours: Starting the album is the closest thing to his biggest hit “Bed”, as Jasper creates an exhilarating synth filled production with pounding bass and clap rhythms. Holiday croons smoothly and slowly, hoping for the slow fresh sound of “Bed”, it doesn’t quite get captured as well here, but its a solid lead single. 4/5
Fall: Light percussion and piano backing set the tone for Holiday’s smooth reflective vocals. The track is a light and relaxed number that sets the tone for the album. 3/5
Don’t Go: Holiday pleads with his lady to not leave him, as his sincere and likeable personality appeal. The track works well, another solid track. 3/5
Wrong Lover: The chilled club night vibed “Wrong Lover” definitely has, as Rick Ross says “its international”. The whole mood of the track works nicely and Holiday’s soft falsetto, light tone create an enjoyable night. Ross’ verse is a solid addition and the track is a worthy number. 3.5/5
Run Into My Arms: The Platinum Brothers return to assist Holiday, evident here with light acoustic production. Holiday continues to utilize his light vocals that builds into a smooth hook. Decent track, a bit dull at times. 3/5
Sing 2 U: Delivering to his female audience, Holiday’s falsetto works nicely here and has a playful mood. Name checking various other artists, Holiday delivers a nice number. 3/5
Lights Go Out: The first of the two bedroom numbers, Holiday’s intimate lyrics and harmonizing at the hook make for a nice sound. 3/5
Make That Sound: The Platinum Brothers appear again and produce the better of the two bedroom numbers, as swirling synths and light piano keys combined with a much more captivating hook by Holiday serenade the ladies. Holiday impresses here and delivers a bedroom burner. 3.5/5
Forever Ain’t Enough: A genuine track, orchestral strings softly play and things build nicely. Holiday expresses his love to the females, “I fall for you deeper every day, feelin now girl more than ever, with our type of love, forever ain’t enough”. A real intimate track that works to Holiday’s personality. 3.5/5
Fly: Similar in vein to “Forever Ain’t Enough” as far as intimacy, deep percussion hold the track, while airy mood synths are used. Holiday sings about a relationship deteriorating and how he understands, allowing his lady to leave and hopefully giving her time to realize that she needs him. This is a new sound for Holiday, containing a possible crossover sound with the pop-pleasing hook. 3.5/5
Homeless: Reconnecting with his D.C. roots, Holiday delivers some social consciousness about the homelessness where he was raised. Describing two stories about a man and woman who go through struggles, Holiday explains how people in our society act, “we be in the club, spendin’ dough, then we come outside and tell him no”. The bridge builds beautifully, as Holiday makes listeners think about being homeless. 3.5/5
I Tried: Stepping outside of his comfort zone, Holiday croons over a backing band production of percussion and guitar. Decent track that would probably sound better live than on recording, as Holiday sings about how hard he’s tried. 3/5
Magic Man: Uptempo track that has Holiday singing at a faster pace than usual. The track is a bit experimentive and a decent bonus. 2.5/5
There is a significant change throughout Holiday’s sophomore release and his debut, Back Of My Lac. Before there was the harder imaged Holiday who often spoke about drinking and smoking, as well as cursing much more. On Round 2, he’s much more matured, keeping things smooth like how he did before, but using far less expletives (hence no parental advisory), as well as using a confident, not cocky image of international singer. He’s much more calm and soft here, delivering many tracks that are backed by light percussion and sweet melodies. While some fans may miss his grit, Holiday produces some worthy music here that shows his diversity, as the remake of “Bed”, “It’s Yours” serves as a worthy number but isn’t as fresh as its predecessor. The Rick Ross assisted “Wrong Lover” has Holiday convincing a lady that she has the wrong lover, as the international chilled club vibe is fitting for Holiday’s falsetto. Bedroom burner “Make That Sound” works well, the innocent and tender “Forever Ain’t Enough” works well, along with its relative sounding “Fall”. At times on the album, things do get a little dull and sleep inducing because Holiday’s vocals are so smooth, but overall Holiday sticks to a sound and while there aren’t the obvious smash singles, he creates a quality album. He still hasn’t quite found his niche, but he displays several possibilities, and doesn’t disregard his street roots fully, with the socially conscious “Homeless”. Holiday displays a much different personality than before, with a softer side that continues his smooth falsetto and likeable persona.

Not As Good As His First
I thought he last album was better than this one
WOW...SIMPLAY AMAZING
A store did an early release to the CD this afternoon and let me tell you this is one of many CD's I am very proud to have in my collection. I cannot describe how deep you can fall into the lyrics. J. Holiday did it again with another successful album in my opinion. Its Yours touched me, Fall made me stop my car and listen to the damn song again and Dont Go expressed everything I feel. Those 3 songs alone were enough for me and expressed alot of what I have felt in a matter of minutes, this is an amazing album. BUY IT!
