Album Review

Almost a decade after their first sports-themed collaboration, the basketball classic Hoosiers, composer Jerry Goldsmith reunited with director David Anspaugh for 1993's Rudy, the inspirational true-life tale of Daniel Ruettiger, a walk-on football player who beats the odds to earn a spot on the Notre Dame roster. Goldsmith's score effortlessly communicates the commitment and will that drive Rudy to succeed, and what would no doubt seem mawkish and sentimental in the hands of a lesser composer proves genuinely rousing here. Themes like "Take Us Out" capture the power and glory of the gridiron in vivid detail.

Great album with one flaw....

If you've never seen the movie, the music will still be good, but if you have seen the movie, the music will probably have much more depth as you listen. It's amazing how you recall the emotions of the movie at specific times. Anyway, everything here is quite good. One tune I miss is the Notre Dame Fight Song sung during a montage of practice - no, I don't mean tryouts.

Beautifully Compliments the Film

If you've seen Rudy, these songs will move you in a way you won't expect. They carry a particular poignancy that is not often found in motion picture scores. Buy this album and listen to it!!! You will feel enrinched.

One of the best scores of all time

Rudy is not just a movie, it is the "Rudy mentality" that the little guy can incorporate into his life and use to his advantage. If you've ever felt unlucky, unappreciated, or have felt as though as hard as you work it won't make up for your shortcomings; this is your soundtrack. When something in your life requires your full effort and focus, this soundtrack will get you ready. One of the hardest things for people who are not confident in their abilities is for them to just let go of their anxiety and give the best they have. This music will help focus you on delivering with the best of your abilities and with the most confidence you can muster. Go out and be somebody.
