Album Review

Already probably the most technically precise subgenre of metal on the planet, how much farther can grindcore be pushed beyond its limit? Well, you can think of Baltimore's Misery Index as sonic scientists — charting the genre's progress — on their 2008 release, Traitors. As with most similarly styled groups of the aforementioned genre, there is not a heck of a whole lot of musical variety or variation featured throughout Traitors, as the Misery Index gentlemen keep things as precise, tight, and brutal as possible from start to finish. As a result, you can take your pick of any of the album's tracks ("Theocracy," the title track, etc.), and be prepared for a complete sonic assault. Which brings up an obvious question — in the wake of Traitors, how much further can Misery Index possibly go musically, before it all implodes?

Misery Index is more heavier than ever. Great album. Great release. Great Death Metal for the whole family to enjoy.

Extremely Good Band

And this album is no exception....Traitors is worth owning in every way. Politically charged lyrics and grinding music are a great combo! All of the songs are great, the only one I thought was passable was The Arbiter, but its still ok.

amazing album, i may be a bit biased here due to the fact i have liked every release by this band so far, but they can back up being one of the better bands in the Death/Grind camp and "traitors" is a perfect example. the riffing for the most part is straight forward, but extremely tight, and with some in-your-face intensity that is hard to match. the message is perfect for the music, having to do with politics, the quotes in the booklet are eye-openers. put there to make you think if you have not done so before. more grind oriented than dying fetus (this band will draw obvious comparisons), but i think they have distanced themselves at this point. if you are into metal and have never listened o Misery Index, i suggest you check them out, your pummled eardrums will thank you for it. Guy (Red Chord) and T.Lindberg (ATG, the great deceiver, lockup) also make guest appearances. with the way things are progressing for thse guys, they will definetly have an impact on extreme music going forward.

A death metal band from Baltimore, MD, Misery Index was founded in 2001 by vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton, drummer Kevin Talley (both former members of Dying Fetus), and guitarist Mike Harrison (ex-Pessimist). They announced their arrival that same year with a self-released EP entitled Overthrow and another disgruntled Dying Fetus alum, guitarist Sparky Voyles, would join the group in time for a 2002 split release with Commit Suicide.
