A good nugget
Fleeting moments of Steely Dan (Plans and Reveries) and even Queen (All Dead) have me thinking I could like this band. But, to be honest, I'm not in love with the super clean and up front vocals on some of the tracks. They can sound a little too sterile and alone. I mean this purely from a sonic perspective. Listen to Canyon and you'll hear what I mean. On the positive side,musically there is a lot of good playing here, and similarly good arrangements. Breakdown is my favorite along with Run. While a little Keane-ish, I think these were the strongest cuts.There is a future for this band, but I wouldn't run out and put all my stock in Black Gold. Pick and choose your favorites and keep your ears open as I have a feeling they will get better with more time. Nice Job overall.
Simply Amazing
"Rush" describes the album beautifully. This is more than just music...its an experience with each song more epic than the last. Gotta check out Shine, The Comedown and the cover song by Queen, All Dead. The cameo vocals of Panic at the Disco's Brenden Urie on Plans & Reveries is a particularly sweet touch on an already brilliant song. Get this album and enjoy the ride...
What a great album and price!!
I feel that this is the best Black Gold album yet. "Breakdown" is my 5 star tune. 30 seconds is not long enough to listen to what was put into each piece. Lastly, the price includes a video and 12 well written and played songs. You will not regret it!
