A masala of indian traditional and chill / lounge
The tracks on this album play well next to my Sade, and my downtempo quiet storm, chill, and lounge collections and playlists. The mix of Indian and western instrumentals clearly have been influenced by these genres but are thicker and richer; the electronics enhance rather than dominate. Devika's vocals are soulful, ethereal. Clearly her traditional training brings the intonations of Indian music and yet I can't help but feel a little bit of western influences of artists like Sade or Portishead as well. The blend is engaging and seductive. It's familiar yet different. It's the right mix to kick back and get taken into many worlds at once and yet feel like you're at the center of it all.
