iTunes Review
It's important to remember the extent to which Carlos Santana helped to change the face of rock and roll music — not to mention how much fun he clearly had while doing just that. Jam bands were already the norm when Carlos Santana began to play out in San Francisco in 1968, but his great achievement was to bring elements of jazz fusion, psychedelic rock and roll, and of course Latin rhythms together. If you're a fan, you can probably hear the tiniest fraction of a Santana song and know who it is. "Evil Ways" remains a fabulously energetic number, while the almost seven-minute "Soul Sacrifice" is a daring exploration of ensemble playing. It's really rare that any artist's first album has such a signature sound, and the way that Santana melded his fluid and melodic guitar playing with Latin rhythms was entirely his own right from the get-go.

Santana
This album blew me away when it was first released (yeah, I'm that old) and it still rocks. My favorite track is "Shades of Time" and if "Soul Sacrifice" doesn't get your pulse beating faster, you are either dead or very close to it.
"all night long"
Best album to get down to..and you know what I mean.
Great Album
I knew this was a gonna be a good album when the lady at the local BORDERS started talking to me about how great a Santana concert was back in 1968. I got this album out of pure want for the Woodstock recordings they have on here as I preveously have two or three of the songs on a "best of.." album. Santana was pretty much a Jam band and this was their first attempt to write a song with a beggining and a end. "Evil Ways" is in fact the product of that attempt, and a very successful one at that. The live version of Soul Sacrifice is better then the recorded version, because when you listen to it you get to hear the Jam's they dish out and how really awesome the drums are. Get this album with the live stuff, it is worth every penny!
