iTunes Review

The Deadstring Brothers play a soulful and swaggering blend of roots rock and classic rock ‘n’roll in the vein of the Rolling Stones, the Faces, and the Allman Brothers Band, as well as contemporary keepers of the flame like the Black Crowes. And they are mighty good at it. Their sound may be nostalgic — in the best possible way — but they’ve got the songs and musical chops to carve out an identity of their own within the grand tradition. San Paulo is the fourth release by this Detroit-based six piece, and it’s a blast of gritty guitar licks, stinging pedal steel, beefy Hammond organ, some accordion, and excellent lead and harmony vocals. The band members share a collective sense of time, whether playing edgy and sharp or funky and loose. Among the 10 tunes there’s a rich mix of flat-out rockers (“Sao Paulo,” “River Song”), mid-tempo boogies (“Smile,” Houston”), and some memorable ballads (“Adalee,” “Always a Friend of Mine”). Another solid and satisfying release by the Deadstring Brothers.

Please....

First off let me say that I like the Deadstring Bros. I enjoy their music and can hear they've been influenced strongly by the Stones. They're probably better than the current Stones, for that matter. But let's be serious.Play ''Sticky Fingers'', Let It Bleed'', or ''Exile On Main Street'' and say these guys are better than classic Stones. There's no comparison,in my opinion. Having said that, this is a decent disc and there are worse ways to spend $10. I wonder what the Deadstrings will sound like in 40 years....( not that I'll be around.... )

From Detroit!!! OMG!!!

Sound like they should be from Atlanta. Or Birmingham. Or Jacksonville.

The Rolling Stones meet the Drive-By Truckers.

Sao Paulo

If the DeadString Brothers do not bring you back in time, you're already dead. Early 70's Stones, dare I say, only better.Don't misunderstand me, no one will ever be the stones, but they have captured the harmony and melody better than the stones. Yes, Sticky fingers, Black and Blue, Exile, Goats Head Soup, classics and never to be duplicated, but, Mick, time to hang it up man.

Biography

Formed: 2001 in Detroit, MI

Genre: Rock

Years Active: '00s

Born and bred in a city hardly known for its country music heritage, Detroit's Deadstring Brothers play alternative country-rock with no small amount of rock & roll swagger and a deep bluesy undertow that often suggests Exile on Main St.-era Rolling Stones more than Uncle Tupelo or their followers. Formed in late 2001, the band wasted no time earning a reputation for its tough but soulful sound with its 2003 self-titled debut. In 2005, they signed with Chicago's premier...
