iTunes Review

Few groups have understood the power of the fun and funky hit single as well as Hall and Oates who took fearless glee in creating silly, infectious pop music meant for the car radio where everyone would drive just a little bit faster. Their emergence in the 1970s as a sure-fire platinum hit machine wasn’t immediate, but once locked into the winning formula they commanded the turn of the decade into the 1980s running at full Philly Soul speed. Sure, they could emulate the emotive blue-eyed soul of the Righteous Brothers with “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’” but the duo’s true strengths were letting it fly with the AM radio funk of “Rich Girl,” “You Make My Dreams,” and “I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do),” the euphoric rush of “Kiss On My List,” the brainwashing hook of “Maneater,” and the exquisitely over-produced keyboard wash of “Out of Touch.” Singer Darryl Hall was that unusual lead singer blessed with a notable and elastic voice that was never overbearing, serving the song above all else.

Even if ya don't recognize all the songs, the voices are impactful

Good listen to of the work of this group

I personally love "Rich Girl", "You Make My Dreams", "I Can't Go for That" and the thinly veiled laugh at President Reagan, "Out of Touch". The other songs are easy to listen to, fun for the most part, and feature some of the great licks of the 80's. Daryl Hall has, as many have said before, an extraordinary range and is "the best white soul singer alive" (not my words, but it fits).
