Concept Album... You decide.
When I found out about this album, I was interested to say the least. The members of Callooh! Callay! were apparently inspired to write this album by William Faulkner's Sound and the Fury according to the Hackberry Records Website. Out of interest came amazement. This album is phenomenal. It isn't a modest record. It is in your face not caring if you hear it or not just as the narrator of Sound and the Fury, but because of that almost pure recklessness, it draws you in, and holds you leaving you possibly confused in the end, but forever changed. A must own!
Well done in spirit and what a departure
Adam, Natalie and Bowen, I salute you! This album is outstanding. With mellow sounds and thunderous overtones Callooh! Callay! have presented a fantastic album. I must say that I have been a Callooh! Callay! fan since hearing them at the Crimson Cafe almost two years ago. Their use of instruments to lure the listener into a well blended masterpiece of sound and then to pass the hat with the vocals is in itself a wonderful ability. One need only hear "Antiquity" to think back to the simple things in life and "Quentin" does a good job of blending a great hymn into a rocking tribute. Mellow or not the music tends to capture the listener and take them on quite a journey. Jabberwocky anyone? Kudos to their genius in putting this album out while those of us familiar were thirsting for more. Get this album and know this group is destined for great things.
