Promising Indie Pop

Color of Clouds reunites three talented musicians - Kelli Scarr (v), Daniel Chen (k), and Nate Greenberg (mix) - who previously collaborated in the short-lived but much celebrated early 2000s band Moonraker. Discerning indie pop/folk electronica fans may have discovered CoC from last year's promising deput EP, The Look, or from their songs being featured on various CW shows.

Satellite of Love showcases the exceptional quality of the songwriting and production of Kelli, Dan and Nate. The electronica leaning songs (Wonder, Let Go, and Left You) are awesome to begin with and promise exciting remixes. Moonraker fans will be glad to hear that Lullysome has been revived and given new life. When combined with the folksy tunes (Brother, Come Back to Me, Haunts Me), listeners will be surprised by the group's versatility.

At first I thought some of the lyrics were a tad trite, but that impression completely disappeared after listening to Come Back to Me and Brother. As good as the songwriting is, the strength of the album rests on the musical arrangements and Kelli's vocalizations. In fact, Kelli's vocals sound better than ever. It's obvious that she's grown as a songwriter and singer (if you haven't listened to her live tracks from touring with Moby, you should).

Color of Clouds will likely appeal to fans of Feist and Bjork. Comparisions to others only go so far, because Kelli's sound has a simple majesty that shines bright on this collaboration with Dan and Nate.

Springtime Soundtrack

I am really enjoying this album. It feels so fresh, with Kelli's beautiful voice leading the way. The instrumentation really works alongside her voice, never over-powering...it allows her to shine while helping to create the vibe she sets on each song, whether it be mournful, playful or melancholy. It is 80 and sunny in NYC this week and this seems like the perfect soundtrack to walk around with. Spring is here.I imagine I will still be listening to the album when the season is over. I particularly like "Brother", "Left You" and "Come Back to Me".

a wonder

Great tunes. Kelli's vocals are truly beautiful, I saw her perform with Moby in Toronto! This batch of songs has an electronic tinge, at the same time mixed with live musicians. Really great guitar playing, drums, piano, strings, and even pedal steel! The tracks are ethereal, acoustic at times, and full of flourish at others. It's no wonder these guys are getting on all those TV shows!
