Buy the whole album
This is an all around solid album, but to truly appreciate it you have to buy the whole album. Track 1 through 20 tell a story which is loosely based on a period of Esoteric's life. It's kinda like a book, but instead of reading it, you just sit back, relax, and listen to some dope lyrics, beats, and cuts. Saving Seamus Ryan is one of the best HIP-HOP albums I have purchased in a while, and it's clear that Eso put a lot of heart into it, from start to finish. You could easily buy one or two songs off the album and rock 'em, but its different then most hip-hop albums released these day, and we should all take advantage of it. Eminem once said, "My songs can make you cry, take you by surprise, and at the same time, make you dry your eyes with the same rhyme. See what you're seeing is a genius at work." This is how I feel about this album, Esoteric is a genious. He makes you laugh, cry, and bounce to his rhymes throughout the whole album, its insane. He brings a unique sound, and with it an outstanding and original masterpiece. Just Buy It!
Back to the Mic
Earlier this year, Eso released the instrumental album "Serve or Suffer." For traditionalists, it a was an unexpected curve, not unlike the Beastie Boys' "The Mix-Up." SSR marks a return to the reference-laden lyrical wordplay over tightly produced sound that Eso fans are used to. It's not quite as mind-blowing as "Egoclapper" or "Esoteric vs. Japan," but the consistency of this album is a bit more evenly distributed. Part of this is due to the structure of the album, which plays something like a movie with intro and outro skits linking all the track together. I was particularly fond of the little conversations Eso has responding to samples from old TV shows ans cartoons.
Now that's entertainment
This is a great concept album that hip hop hasnt seen the likes of since Prince Paul's "A Prince Among Thieves". Of course, I'm a huge Eso fan so this album is so much better than that. And the incorporation of the "Indie Solo" character, It's really Eso but actually Indiana Jones through samples, is brilliant. This album is full of great lines, dope beats and above all else, a cohesive concept. Great Work Pterodac! And I know you a busy man too, anyone with a kid will tell you that....haha Gangsta wit my Passy!
