Customer Reviews
First impression always sucks..
I'm a freshman in college now and I've been listening to Finch ever since 9th grade, around the time when they weren't as popular. I loved What It Is To Burn and always will, even tho i haven't listened to it for quite awhile now. Anyway I bought their new cd and hated it. Yea it gets 4 stars and I hated it? yes keyword "Hated", past tense. Well it just so happens that Finch is known for their quality screaming and every Finch fan knows it. Well listen, its less poppy I understand. Its not poppy because you haven't listened to any of the songs enough for them to be popping in your head all the time. With that said, go listen to it a few more times and the new sound will at least grow on you. The new album doesn't get 5 stars because well, I was hoping for another WIITB like the rest of you. Don't just eff the new sound, embrace what you hate and you will learn to love this excellent new sound that has many listeners out there dropping their jaws.
Eh...
Good Songs: Insomniatic Meat, Brother Bleed Brother, A Piece Of Mind, Ink, Bitemarks And Bloodstains Ironically enough, most of the good songs are the slightly more radio-friendly ones, the ones closer to the old Finch style. A Piece Of Mind is an exception, however it strongly reminds me of Glassjaw, which is automatic good song status in my book. Ink's only bad part is the verses, where Nate uses that ugly Korn-like whisper/growl. Also of note is that they switched producers from the lovely Mark Trombino to some other guy halfway through. I'll bet money this is the direction Mark wanted to go, but the band wasn't feeling it. Bad Songs: A Man Alone, Ravenous, The Casket Of Roderic Usher A Man Alone sounded promising until the chorus. The jazz-like verse is really cool and different, and I was looking forward to an equally awesome chorus...but no. The rest of the song is ruined from this point on. Ravenous has its good points, but overall it's lost for good when Nate pulls that god damn growling again. Nate, you're not in Korn, lose the growling. Casket has no point to it. It's not even two minutes, and consists solely of random synchronized drum beats and screams. The rest of the songs are decent, good ENOUGH, but they could have been better. Especially in Revelation Song and Reduced To Teeth, where Nate attempts that growling again. If it weren't for that, those songs might be a little better. In conclusion, while you might not like the different direction that Finch went in, you have to admit that at least they're not littering the scene with the cliche screamo sound they had a hand in starting. The world could certainly use less bands like Hawthorne Heights.
This one takes time to get into
say hello to sunshine is a much deeper, more complex album that What it is to Burn. If you are expecting a rehash of the same sound, move along. If you want to hear something fresh, new, and unique, Say Hello to Sunshine is for you. It may take awhile to get into this album, but once you've listened to it a few times, it begins to grow on you tremendously. Finch has reinvented themselves into a much more mature sound, with greater complexity in their songwriting and lyrics. It took me about two months to warm up to this one, but now I can not stop listening to it. Incredible.
