iTunes Review
A veteran MC from upper Manhattan, MF Grimm has a backstory that is almost too crazy to believe. Child actor on Sesame Street turned gangster rapper/drug dealer, he was shot repeatedly, paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. Though he had been entertaining offers from various major labels, after the shooting, his corporate suitors scattered — this was before it was "cool" to get shot — leaving him to continue hustling both on the streets and in the studio. Scars & Memories compiles much of his early, rare material, some of it re-recorded due to missing masters. Joints like "Bloody Love Letter" and the title track address his near-death directly, (also mourning the loss of his brother who was killed in the same ambush), "So Watcha Want?" bangs with golden-era drums and rowdy chanted chorus, and "Aids" finds Kool G Rap and Akinyele stopping by for a cautionary tale about the dangers of raw-dog exploits. Quality production comes from Rob Swift, Dr. Butcher, and MF DOOM, while brief skits feature Grimm reflecting on his wild and drama-filled life.

A Classic Released After Its Time
Its unfortunate it took this album so long to get released because had it been released when it was recorded (Early-Mid 90's), it would have been placed among the ranks of Nas's Illmatic and Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt. Yes MF Grimm is that underrated, one of the best story telling MC's ever. "Take 'Em to War", produced by MF DOOM, is one of the hardest songs I've ever heard, "Bloody Love Letter" is Grimm's dying words, and "Dedicated" explains what makes a crew. If you liked the rap that came out of the early 90's(Wu-Tang, Biggie, Rakim, etc.) you'll feel this album.
One of the most amazing compilations in my library
MF GRIMM is easily one of the most underrated MCs of all-time. It's a crying shame that most of the people that heard of him think he's MF DOOM's protege gone bad. Scars & Memories is proof of Grimm's amazing abilities as an emcee as he goes from straight up sick rap like "King of New York" to phenomenal concept tracks such as "Scars & Memories". The latter is an incredible song Grimm wrote from the hospital after getting shot and turned into a paraplegic. It is easily one of the greatest concept tracks I've ever heard. The rest of the album doesn't fall short of these tracks at all. Every song on here is crazy in its own accord. This is the type of compilation that restores my faith in hip-hop. When you first hear CDs like this, it just makes you want to dig the crates and look for other underground gems you might have missed.
What an Album!!
MF GRIMM is at probably his lyrical best on this album. King of New York says it all. The album really catches on fire when you get to the original. The interviews are a sweet addition because they actually answer really interesting things about MF GRIMM. This album is nothing buut fire and truth dont miss out.
