a non-biased breakdown.
Scary Kids Scaring Kids changes it up a bit with this self titled release, yet they still keep their general distinct sound. Yeah, there's less screaming and it's generally a lot softer than their older stuff, but they still hit hard on many tracks. Just listen to Degenerates, A Pistol To My Temple, Snake Devil, or Blood Runs Forver. The album's core sound is derived from tracks like Holding On, Faces, and Set Sail. Not especially powerful, but just good music through and through. A little toned down from SKSK previous work, but still incorporating the occasional riff and shred. The songs that are simple and mellow are are nothing short of amazing. Check out Star Crossed or the piano ballad Watch Me Bleed. Surprisingly the two interlude tracks are really impressive. The acoustic Derailed is moving, and the wordless Breathe is unexpectedly serene and peaceful (I often put it on repeat, get on my knees, and pray). All in all, Scary Kids Scaring Kids is a great (as well as progressive) release from a band whose future is clearly still in the making. Though this album might be a sidestep along the band's main journey, their maturity will definitely show in their later work.
It's called melody
there seems to be a lot of issue over whether it's better than the first album or not. it doesn't really matter - in and of itself, this album is just solid. every song rocks - amazing melody on vocals, great riffs, nice touch with the synth. song structure is great - notice layered guitars on the breakdowns of faces, degenerates...what time signature is the chorus of pistol to my temple?! haha awesome. arguably better than the new chiodos album simply an impressive and stunning second effort.
5 STARS
This is an excellent album, and definatly worth buying. I've heard a few negative comments about it because the style is so different compared to their other albums, but I personally like the change. It sets them apart from all the other screamo bands, and will soon put their name in the spotlight.
