One of the most influential albums I ever owned
I was given this album 20 years ago by a neighbour that didn't like it.(He was very racist) The first time I heard it I was hooked. Johnny Clegg was the first white man to ever become a Zulu warrior and you can tell by his singing and lyrics that he really embraced all Africa. I can't recommend this album highly enough whether you are into rock, jazz, reggae, blues, or whatever there is a song on this album that will speak to you. As a bagpiper, I know certain music can touch your very soul. This is one of those.
Classic 80's Afro-Pop
Scatterlings is the quintessential 1980's Afro-Pop album, taking traditional Zulu rhythms and sounds and packaging them in a slick, "new wave", wrapper. That said, almost all of the songs prove to be nearly timeless, with strong melodies, driving rhythm and sing along worthy lyrics. More than 20 years since I first bought the LP, I'm now proud to share these songs with my young sons. Thankfully, I'll be able to explain the political subtext of racism and apartheid as a historical footnote rather than a here and now challenge.
Scatterlings
Love this album...great combination of African beat music with modern pop/rock. I had this album in college and forgot about it until I saw it here again. Would recommend to anyone.
