The Reason I Became 'NunoFreak'
The year was 1997, I was eighteen years old and I was skimming through the pages of Metal Edge magazine. I came across an article about Nuno Bettencourt, the great guitarist from Extreme. I had always dismissed Extreme, but the article had me intrigued about Nuno branching out on his own and trying new things. So in early February '07 my local record store finally received a copy of "Schizophonic" and I picked it up, along with Live's "Secret Samadhi", which is the album I was actually excited about! I race home and decide to pop in Nuno's album first, just to get it out of the way and listen to Live the rest of the day and night. Long story short, I didn't listen to that Live album for another week, because I refused to take "Schizophonic" out of my CD player! I remember that day very well, because my aunt passed away and I was feeling pretty down when I first listened to this album. The songs captured me like no songs had ever done before, I can't really explain it. Now here it is over ten years later and I'm the biggest Nuno Bettencourt fan you will find, hence the user name NunoFreak that I use all over the 'Net. This album is great and remains one of my all-time favorites to this very day. Do yourself a favor and get this album NOW! The songs run the full spectrum of emotions and it's very eclectic. From the intensity of "Gravity" and "Swollen Princess" to the smooth "Pursuit Of Happiness" (one of my favorite songs ever). This isn't a guitar album, it's an album made by a well-rounded musician, singer and songwriter. At it's core it's just a bunch of demos Nuno had recorded over the years in various locations, but together it gels and it's just great. I can't say it enough. Why are you still reading this, GO DOWNLOAD IT NOW!!!! And check out Extreme on their 'Take Us Alive' World Tour. Their new album "Saudades de Rock" is coming soon. Why you're at it, check out both albums from Mourning Widows, the Population 1 releases and the great album "Love" from DramaGods, all Nuno projects and bands.
Essential Nuno!
Besides the drag photo, absolutely loved this album when it came out! Great songs front to back...and not all guitar solos, either. Nuno is is a genious....cannot wait for the new Extreme album. Aug 12th baby!!!
Nuno is back!!
Great to hear from Nuno again...always knew he was the talent behind Extreme. This is a really good album, forget the new Extreme album coming out, he needs to stay on his own and keep recording music like this!!
