Bravo!
It takes guts for an artist of her stature to program challenging works. Sure everyone records the Sibelius but who still even plays the Schoenberg? Thankfully Ms Hahn has decided to give the Schoenberg concerto it's due. It's a great work that has been neglected for years. Her Sibelius is good to and Salonen manages to keep the orchestra from sounding like it's stuck in the mud in this work giving it a fresh sense of urgency. If you already own a copy of the Sibeliius you might not be compelled to buy another reading but this is well worth the price.
Incredible
This is one of Hahns best recordings, the Sibelius is incredible. Hahn is my favorite violinist because every note she plays get the correct value. In the Sibelius, she holds a few notes longer that usually arn't held long. The best recording of the Sibelius I've ever heard
SCHOENBERG IS GOD
The Schoenberg concerto is quite possibly the most wonderful violin concerto every written (certainly in the 20th Century!). This recording of it is about as good as it will every be, and most definitely better than previously recorded attempts. This might be the only classical album worth buying of the year.
