Album Review
The members of Germany's Tokio Hotel started their careers when they were in their early teens, and while they still look youthful on their album covers, they've obviously grown since their 2005 emo/punk-pop debut, Schrei. Comprised of translated versions of songs from Schrei and Zimmer 483, their English-language debut, Scream, opens with the title song and immediately highlights the most obvious change the band has undergone — that of puberty. Fortunately, the lowering of lead singer Bill Kaulitz's vocal range (and subsequent lowering of the album's pitch) has not diminished the songs but enhanced them, bringing depth — no pun intended — and power to his work that was previously lacking. Tokio Hotel may have lost a bit of the innocent tone that endeared them to their early fans, but it has been replaced with a stronger, more assured sound that is just as appealing. That said, there is an interesting dichotomy that takes place on Scream — while Tokio Hotel are growing up, they aren't grown up. The sound is polished and the melodies catchy, but the lyrics veer toward melodrama, especially on tracks that deal with social issues such as "Don't Jump" and "Forgotten Children." There's also a problem concerning the band's overall musicianship. While the performances from each of the members are solid, there's nothing exceptional or particularly inventive that takes place on the album. It could be a turn-off or disappointment for those hoping that age would give Tokio Hotel a rougher edge, but it's nothing to fault the band for. Despite the occasional misstep, Scream shows that the bandmembers are ready and able to embrace their growing abilities.

Okay, so the band is amazing, the cd is amazing... everything about Tokio Hotel is just AMAZING!!! (including Bill's hair!!!) Even all their slow songs are especially powerful. I highly recommend Scream, Ready Set Go!, Monsoon, Don't Jump, Break Away, Rescue Me, Final Day, By Your Side, 1000 Oceans, and Durch Den Monsun :] Keep up the great work, TH! but itunes we NEEEEED their other videos, please! especially the ones for Monsoon, 1000 Oceans, Don't Jump and Rescue Me. And their German songs too! PLEASE HIT YES IF YOU AGREE!!! ps: Bill Kaulitz is freaking sexy!!!!!!
the greatest band youve never heard of. till NOW
wow. thats all i can say. so i was innocently watching random youtubes and all of a sudden- WHAM- tokio hotel hit me full blast. i fell in love with the sound, the hair, the lyrics (in both languages). to my suprise, i found that they were HUGE in europe and the biggest thing to come out of germany ever and the singer and guitarist are my age. my life is forever changed- seriously. okay so enough of the life story and onto the review: -Scream (schrei)- sick. love the yelling. perfect anger/ monday song and i heard this was bills favorite english song to record -ready set go (Ubers ende der welt)- most popular song for a good reason. -Monsoon (durch den monsun)- really sweet and gets really good like 2 minutes in -Love is Dead (totgeliebt)- the lyrics are INSANE. look them up- "the vultures are waiting for whats left of us..." -Don't Jump (spring Nicht)- epic. love the end -Live every second (Leb die sekunde)- bit more joyful than the anti suicide Dont Jump, engaging chorus -On the edge (Stich ins gluck)- not one of my favorites but wtill awesome -sacred (Heilig)- bills voice is cool in this one but i like the german better -Break Away (Ich Bren Aus)- another anger song. epic begining -Rescue Me (rette mich)- song makes my heart ache, it sounds so sincere. great emotion -Final Day (der letzte tag)- better in german but great chorus -Forgotten Children (vergessene Kinder)- nice ending but there are no kids singing like in the german version, which was a bit disappointing -By your side (ich bin da)- bills voice is very emotional again. this was used in the move prom night -1000 oceans (1000 meere)- FAVORITE SONG. epic. awesome. sick. perfectly emotional. perfect in every way -durch den monsun- seeing that they recorded this when bill was 13, pretty decent song. they sound so cute... -black (shwarz)- not my favorite, i think its a bit boring, but still its tokio hotel so its cool overall- one of the greatest albums ive ever heard. kind of suprising how these teens from german make better music IN ENGLISH than most other US bands ive heard but im a bit biased... ICH LIEBE TOKIO HOTEL
Amazing!
These guys are amazing, I just saw them at Bamboozle in New Jersey on Saturday! Yeah, Tom messed up during Monsoon, but the expression on Bill's face made it all better! Personally, I prefer the original German songs, but these are really good too! He sounds like he's been speaking english for a long time, it's really great. Totally worth the money.
