Album Review

The first U.S. solo release by Sarah Bettens, better known as the lead singer of Belgian alt-rockers K's Choice, Scream isn't far removed from Bettens' earlier releases. The title track kicks the record off with a glossy punch of polite power pop in the manner of Letters to Cleo or Juliana Hatfield and would have been an excellent addition to the K's Choice canon. Songs like "Stay," with its peculiarly retro blend of '80s-style synths on the "strings" setting and Lilith Fair-era acoustic guitar, and the white girl funk-pop of "Come Over Here" are a little more subdued than K's Choice tended to be, although Bettens' appealing voice keeps them afloat.

A little Jem

While watching a video show on LOGO and they played a video for Sarah Bettens - Stay. I was quickly drawn in by the video but it was her voice that kept me watching. I was surprised to find her on Itunes and even more surprised to find the CD came out in April! There is so much good music out there to be had but it is hard to find. Thanks to LOGO for playing new artist, thanks for playing videos at all! Sarah's voice is both soft and stong at points, there is a rasp to it that I love. The songs range from ballads to up beat more rock inspired songs. Not your typical sappy chick music. I will not compare her to anyone, I do not want you to have preconceived notion. I highly recomend buying this CD and I hope to see her live!

Effortless, beautiful...

Sarah Bettens doesn't need to try and impress you....A beautiful woman that has held onto her childlike self. Hurts and Joys intermingle within each song. You can't help but love her... Or wish you new her.

A lost talent but she's content

I came across Sarah while on a trip to the UK. Channel surfing in the hotel room I came across Sarah on a French TV music station. I was captivated by the song she was playing (live) on the show but then, even better, she sat down for an interview with the presenter. First the interview was conducted in English until Sarah surprised everyone by returning the questions in French! The interview conveyed that Sarah was quite happy with her annominity in the USA and was enjoying her success in Europe while being able to return to the States unobserved! Great music from a very intelligent young lady.
