iTunes Review

The first cut here, “In Venere Veritas,” is decorated with some hints of bygone goth, like the Cure-esque keyboards and minor chord arpeggios that are slightly reminiscent of the Mission U.K. But the driving chorus is pure Generation Hot Topic emo. Most of Screamworks: Love In Theory and Practice abounds in similarly melodic alternative rock with a crystalline radio-friendly production and lyrics that mostly muse on severance. Screamworks is a break-up album. Frontman Ville Valo went on record to say that these songs comprise a sonic diary of an ended affair and that they also represent a cathartic, primal scream. “Heartkiller” is a perfect example with its pained (albeit melodramatic) lyrics that jump right off the pages of Valo’s Moleskine notebook, while ‘80s-inspired keyboards pulse under winding guitars and a simple but steady meat-and-potatoes drum beat. “Katherine Wheel” is another standout with poetic lyrics bonded to the barbed song hooks and doubled vocal tracks with melodies that closely follow the lead guitar line.

I don't know

I have been a HIM fan for a while now, but if you ask me there older stuff is better. There newer albums just isn't what I had wanted. HIM just isn't the same since they went mainstream. The last 3 albums they have put out alot of newer fans like more than the older. Personaily one of my favriot songs is dark secret love. I wish itunes would have it, but it's a rare song. I understand there trying new stuff, but I miss the old HIM.

you cant stop change

you cant stop change from happening. this band was and is amazing at taking their own unique style of music and evolving it. H.I.M. is amazing and will never conform to fit into mainstream rock. put any of these songs on shuffle with your current H.I.M. library and u will never know a true difference

Take it for what it is

HIM is back with their new album and what do I think. I have noticed that HIM lightened up their sound this time around. Let's just say that this is a slightly lighter Dark Light. It still has all the familiar sounds, but Valos vocals are higher than the last album Venus Doom. They are attempting to create songs along the lines of 2004s And love Said No? Does anyone agree? I do. Once I listen to this album a million times over this year, I will have a better review of Screamworks. I like the title, the direction they went for and hey, if you liked Deep Shadows and brilliant Highlights and Dark Light, you should give this album a listen. Buy this album if you own any of their other albums and if you a generally a fan of their sound. You can't be disappointed if you are open minded. Hey, we all know Him, they've been around for a while. There's alot worse bands out their then Him,right? Love it and as i said will listen to this album a million or more times.

Finland's H.I.M. One year later, Greatest Love Songs, Vol. 666 solidified their cult status throughout the region. Razorblade Romance (2000) and Deep Shadows and Brilliant Highlights (2002) were followed by the Europe-only Love Metal in 2003. A series of compilations followed, including And Love Said...
