Sea of Awesomeness!
Last year, Mosshart, Fertita, Lawrence, and White got together for an impromptu jam at White's Third Man studio. Putting together a great Debut Album and increasing the already massive catalogue of songs that Jack White has contributed to, what is interesting to me is Jack has taken to playing the drums in this band. In this capacity he has attacked the instrument with the same verve that has made him a master at everything he touches. It is interesting to note also that Dean Fertita of the Queens of the Stone Age is jamming with this band as his other Band mate,John, is touring with his new band Them Crooked Vultures with Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones. This album maintains the same experimental electronica noises and Jamaican beats but add more Led Zeppelin guitar noises and riffs than their previous release. While these influences are apparent it remains obvious that The Dead Weather is concerned with pushing new ground in this day when so many bands are trying to be safe. Jack said it was bluesier and heavier, and I would add funkier, you can hear it in many tracks and his voice is more prominent on this album taking the Lead from the capable vixen, Alison Mosshart but this still is not a move that threatens her position but solidifies the vision of the entire band. Old Mary touches on some of Jack's Roman Catholic background and some of the other songs penned by Alison lyrically distance them from a marginal-christian ethos/viewpoint/imagery, like the single, "Die by the Drop." In sum this album is a success because it treads new ground without abandoning the groups previous effort. Worth it. Thanks The Dead Weather! You rock!
Peace.
Cant Do Wrong
Jack white simply cannot produce bad music
Mad 100 ways over this album
I grew up listening to and admiring how Page, Plant, Jones and Bonzo created a truly unique sound that leveraged the blues and turned it into, what I consider to be the best Rock and Roll ever produced. Since that time, I've wondered if I would ever be able to enjoy a band with the same dynamics, the same energy, and the same quality. If you are a Zeppelin fan, or a fan of blues based Rock, this is a must buy.
