iTunes Review

Like so many of the Motown groups, the Four Tops were a singles act, but, wow, what great singles! We know it had something to do with getting top-rate songs from Holland-Dozier-Holland, their writing team. But it also had a lot to do with heartfelt performances, led by the magnificent Levi Stubbs on lead vocals. Their second album captures all that was sublime about these hit-makers, with tunes like the euphoric "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" and the knowing "It's the Same Old Song." Motown may have had better-known acts, but few were as consistently successful. Other key tracks: "Something About You," "Helpless"

Good follow-up to the superb debut album

Now that Levi is gone, I'm ready for the songs from that superb debut album to appear on iTunes. I've waited too long for "A Tea House in Chinatown" and "Sad Souvenirs". While I'm waiting, and while I mourn the loss of one of the greatest soul voices of all time, I can definitely say there's nothing that compares to the sound of early Motown from the early to mid-60s. Set your equalizer to dance, and marvel at the Funk Brothers' handiwork. Rife with alto sax and their own "wall of sound". Wow!

Four Tops-Second album

This was vintage Four Tops in their prime. It's loaded with many of their hits and B sides that were almost as good.Levi Stubbs was one of the greatest lead singers of all time.

The Four Tops' story is one of longevity and togetherness: these Motown legends teamed up in high school and spent over four decades without a single personnel change. In between, they became one of the top-tier acts on a label with no shortage of talent, ranking with the Temptations and the Supremes as Motown's most consistent hitmakers. Where many other R&B vocal groups spotlighted a tenor-range lead singer, the Four Tops were fronted by deep-voiced Levi Stubbs, who never cut a solo record...
