Album Review

Originally an offshoot of the band Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, led by guitarist Jorma Kaukonen and bassist Jack Casady from the Airplane, took refuge from that band's psychedelic rock format to play stripped-down, jammed-out, and often acoustic sets of folk-blues, a path Hot Tuna continue to follow some 40 years later. This 12-track set includes live performances drawn from shows held between 1969 and 1977, including fine versions of blues classics "Hesitation Blues," "How Long Blues," "Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning," and others.

Begun as an acoustic spinoff of the Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna eventually became the full-time focus of founding members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen, emerging as a popular touring act of the 1970s.
