Album Review
Few folks are on the fence about Kid Rock protégé Uncle Kracker. People either love him or hate him. With Seventy Two & Sunny, his third solo disc, the latter rule most often applies, as Kracker blatantly pilfers from the likes of Bob Seger, the Eagles, and others on tracks like "Further Down the Road." Largely absent of originality, Kracker brews up airwave-ripe albeit sugary lovelorn dreck like "Rescue" and the doo wop novelty "Please Come Home." That's not to say Seventy Two & Sunny is all annoyingly tepid, as the alluringly sunny "This Time" fuses country and classic rock with inexplicably pleasant results. Elsewhere, Uncle Kracker delivers "Writing It Down," an uplifting piano ballad that is too good to dismiss. He also teams up with hit country musician Kenny Chesney to reprise the, ahem, magic of that artist's "When the Sun Goes Down." ~ John D. Luerssen, Rovi
Customer Reviews
Soul and honesty beats critics everyday!
Uncle Cracker is one of my all time favorites! Down to earth, open minded, honest. His style is sing about what he wants and doing it with integrity. Album is full of good times. Great job UK!
Great Album
This is really the only record of Uncle Kracker's I listen to, but it is one of my favorites. Once you get past the name "Uncle Kracker", you'll realize there are some great songs here... much more soulful and well-written than I would expect. Rescue and Don't Know How (Not to Love You) are two of my favorite songs, by anybody.
Beautiful!
He is more talented than most I hear, and more importantly, willing to try things in order to present what he wants you to hear. The song "Writing It Down" is probably one of the most significant songs my wife and I have ever heard, and if you find the meaning in it for you, you will feel the same. We both agree that it is a "if-you-were-stranded-on-a-desert-island-an-only-had-10-songs" type of song. Exceptional talent creates exceptional songs, and this by far a classic example.
