I would give this album 6 stars!

It's really interesting to me that everything that has any depth or is truly creative will get bashed by the critics
This album is probably the most influential one of that era and one of Vai's best!!!!
Devin Townsend's voice takes you to all kinds of places and shouldn't music take you on a journey?

Give it some time and it will become one of your favorites!!!!!

interesting

wtf? words at end of "deep down into the pain"

so, i bought "deep down into the pain" after seeing the "promo video" version on youtube and thinking it was pretty cool... when i saw that this version was about 2 or 3 minutes longer, i was sorta hoping maybe for extended solos or instrumentals. instead, there is extra screaming at the beginning (which i had considered the song's only drawback on the video) and a bunch of random spoken parts at the end... if these could be cut out, this song wouldnt be bad... but beware, this is one that after the main music finishes, you will have to manually change to the next song because it is just impossible to sit through all that weird talking at the end. from listening to (but thankfully not purchasing) other songs on this album, i would say that this is my least favorite of his. i first started listening to vai after his role in the movie "crossroads". some of the first songs i grew attached to were "bad horsie" and "blue powder". the songs on this album don't equal those, not in the least. i enjoy some artistic concepts, but when the concept overpowers the actual music (as i feel it does here) i think that is too much. after all, music is about music, right?
