iTunes Review

While hip-hop has seen its share of eccentric artists over the years, none have been as consistently unpredictable, prolific, and everlasting than Kool Keith. From his early days redefining ‘80s rap with Ultramagnetic MCs, through his 1996 crossover opus Dr. Octagonecologyst, to his seemingly endless supply of random projects that continue well past the millennium, he remains one of the most charismatic and interesting figures in music today. Released in 2007, Unreleased Archives treats listeners to a twisted assortment of extremely rare material recorded during the early-to-mid ‘90s, prior to the release of the porno-rap favorite Sex Style. Produced entirely by longtime cohort KutMasta Kurt, it includes 17 tracks that perfectly balance hilarity, funkiness, and perverted depravity. Though the subject matter is unapologetically one-dimensional, it's done so well there's really no point in complaining. Several joints are ridiculously good, specifically "Remember Me?," "Spread 'Em," and "Time for Sex."

Customer Reviews

wow...

I agree with everyone else... this album is ridiculously good! Kutmasta Kurt's production is insane as always and Kool Keith is just straight up entertaining to listen to. This obviously isn't new material from them. It's old stuff from the original Sex Style album that never got put on it. It truly is sad how underappreciated Kutmasta Kurt is. His beats are amazing, have substance, and consist of much more than a simple loop. For even crazier, more genius production from him, check out Dr. Dooom. That album is insane!!!!!

epic

let's face it, keith + kurt = the new eric b. and rakim, pete rock and cl smooth, rev run and jam master jay, flav and chuck d, etc, etc, etc. in other words, "sex style" is a CLASSIC!!! cop this, love it, bump it, treasure it.

Prepare

Are you kidding me??? This album is off the hook, Kutmasta and Keith do it again...Hard, Freaky and Fresh...

Biography

Born: October 19, 1963 in New York, NY [The Bronx]

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

After single-handedly redefining "warped" as the mind and mouth behind the Bronx-based Ultramagnetic MC's, "Kool" Keith Thornton — aka Rhythm X, aka Dr. Octagon, aka Dr. Dooom, aka Mr. Gerbik — headed for the outer reaches of the stratosphere with a variety of solo projects. A onetime psychiatric patient at Bellevue, Keith's lyrical thematics remained as free-flowing here as they ever were with the N.Y. trio, connecting up complex meters with fierce, layers-deep metaphors and veiled criticisms...
