Album Review
Adult alternative has been one of the more female-dominated areas of the music world — an area where so many of the tastemakers (Sarah McLachlan, Vanessa Carlton, the Indigo Girls and Shawn Colvin, for example) have been women. But largely female isn't the same as exclusively female, and male artists have also made some valuable contributions to the adult alternative field, including John Mayer, the Gin Blossoms, and the underexposed, Philadelphia-based Chet Delcampo, among others. A name that should be added to that list is singer/songwriter Sacha Sacket, whose second album, Shadowed, is as intriguing as it is melancholy and darkly introspective. The intrigue comes into play because of all the clever references in his lyrics — for example, "Be my story of O" (a reference to the classic French S&M film/book) in "Cockatoo," and "you've grown weary of my Jeckyll and my Hyde" on the title song. But most listeners who hear this excellent sophomore effort probably won't notice Sacket's cleverness as much as they will notice all the sadness and disillusionment in his lyrics; Shadowed is a very dark album, and few rays of sunlight enter Sacket's adult alternative/folk-rock space. One influence who serves the Los Angeles resident pleasingly well is the late Nick Drake; Sacket gives the impression that he could easily recite all the lyrics to "River Man" if called upon to do so. And yet, Shadowed never sounds like it was recorded in the '70s — not only is the production style more modern, but also, Sacket has no problem incorporating elements of Tori Amos and Sarah McLachlan. That isn't to say that any of those direct or indirect influences ever obscure his individuality; Sacket is most certainly his own man, and he shows a great deal of promise on this compelling CD.

Get Shadowed!
This artist took me by surprise; his album gets stuck in my player weeks on end sometimes. Sacha Sacket is one of the astonishing jewels of the music world and Shadowed really shows it. He writes and composes his own Art from the heart and soul without the worry of meeting big corporate demands. Some people view Shadowed as dark, granted, but Sacha is not afraid to address the pains we all go through. Sacha is gifted to express the feeling with his mesmerizing lyrics. He goes where few artists do as you can feel the emotions from piano keys that Sacha plays and every word he sings with his wonderful voice. It is a really great piece of art. Get Shadowed and spread the word.
Beyond Expectations
When I bought this CD, I didn't expect the flavor and fullness of the album. I didn't expect to feel as though I knew these songs after only one or two listenings. Every song dove deep into my memories and planted themselves as classics, as standards, as ones I will always return to in the future and listen with a fondness reserved, generally, for only the most cherished records, tapes and CDs (now all digital, but whatever) I grew up with. It works in the background and in the foreground, on a lazy Sunday afternoon or driving down the open road. Shadowed may just be one of the best albums I've got in my collection. "The Prodigal" got me in just a 30 second sample. I highly recommend that you buy this album.
Stunning and vibrant voice...
I heard his music through a friends myspace and fell in love with his voice. After listening to and reading the lyrics of his song "The Prodigal" and "Sweet Suicide" , I fell in love with his album. You can tell he is passionate about his music and has put a lot of effort into trying to establish himself and is more focus on his music then trying to make a buck in the business. Highly recommended.
