iTunes Review

A longstanding reggae group based in upstate New York, 10 Ft. Ganja Plant has been going strong since the late '90s, cranking out authentic music in the roots tradition, full of positivity and good vibes and backed by talented, always on-point live instrumentation. While the group’s official roster is mysterious (no credits are on the albums), the main singers are usually Kevin Kinsilla (originally from John Brown's Body) and Ras Jay Champany. Sylford Walker lends his vocals to "My Roots" and "Hard Times," while Prince Jazzbo joins them for the powerful "Africa" and "Recession." Though it’s not overwhelmingly original, that's not really the point. Shake Up the Place is straight-up throwback roots reggae, with a little dub thrown in for good measure and an abundance of heart. Other standouts include "Pharaoh's Army," "Ringer's Rock," and the instrumental track "Strength."

More Meditation Music!!

Alrite Bredren And Sistren!! 10 ft. Ganja Plant is back with another potent joint right here. Very Rootical tunes with original vocals from Sylford Walker, sum nice dancehall from Prince Jazzbo, and of course sum amazing dubs (jazzy horns and deep bass lines). The Greatest Dub Artists of our time are due respect for putting this all together. Irie album overall, righteous vibes throughout. INI HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM.

Years Active: '00s

Hailing from upstate New York, surely one of the more unlikely locales for an authentic reggae act, 10 Ft. Ganja Plant are a mysterious roots and dub collective and splinter group of the better-known Ithaca, NY-based eight-piece John Brown's Body. Known for impromptu — rarely announced or promoted — live shows that incorporate a loose, improvisatory jam band feel, the group garnered some renown in the Northeast U.S. live music circuit throughout the 2000s. 10 Ft.
