Five Stars

As much of a music freak as I am, I can't believe this band slipped by me in the 90s. I guess it was about this time I began to get less enchanted with pop music. I came across this group on Pandora recently. This band has such unique and haunting sound. I love everything they have done, rarely do I buy music anymore, but I gladly forked over 9.99 for their albums here. I hope to see another release before long!!

The only album in my collection of its kind

I've had this album since the mid 90's and it's one of the few that I've had for so long that I still listen to. I'll dust it off and listen to it about once a year. It's too good to never hear again. I love this dark, smokey bar, everyone's wasted...sound. Here are my ratings for each song.

Fade Into You - 5 stars
Bells Ring - 5 stars
Mary of Silence - 3 stars
Five String Serenade - 5 stars
Blue Light - 5 stars
She's My Baby - 2 stars
Unreflected - 2 stars, but a very cool acoustic guitar strum
Wasted - 4 stars
Into Dusk - 3 stars
So Tonight That I Might See - 1 star (this is the one song on the album I don't get)

While some of the songs didn't get great ratings, I could play this whole album and just chill with it playing as background music.

Mazzy Star

The music is very mellow and sensual. For some reason the band's music reminds me of New Orleans.

Formed: 1989

Genre: Alternative

If psychedelic music had a voice in '90s post-punk, Mazzy Star may have been its strongest reincarnation. That doesn't necessarily mean that fans of the Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead will find the band to their liking, however. Mazzy Star much prefered the dark side of psychedelia, as exemplified by the most distended tracks of the Doors and the Velvet Underground. Their fuzzy guitar workouts and plaintive folky compositions are often suffused...
