Album Review

The Sheila Divine may get its unusual name from an Australian slang word for "sissy" or "wimp," but there's a bit of irony in that name, for this promising debut EP is hardly wimpy. The alternative rock trio brings a lot of hurt and vulnerability to darkly emotional offerings like "Hum," "Modern Log" and "The Amendment," but they also bring a fair amount of intensity and aggression to their songs. The Sheila Divine (which sometimes sounds like a combination of Radiohead and U2) isn't afraid to rock passionately, yet melody is an important and crucial part of their sound. These are honest, heartfelt songs that stick with the listener long after the CD has finished playing.

Buy this for Hum

Hum is one of my all time favorite songs. Nuff said.

Different (better?) versions than on New Parade

I got this cd about ten years ago and it's just great. The versions on this ep are much raw-er and more emotionally wrought than the polished versions that made it onto their first album. While I love the album, I think I like the intensity of these demos more.

Shadow of the future

Great songs. Great recordings.
Even better versions of all songs on the the full length New Parade, one of the greatest albums ever. Take note.
