Customer Reviews
so i can tell you true...
Kristin Diable has been blessed with a healthy earnestness - her unique phrasings and emotive tones convey a healthy dose of passion, but she manages to avoid the trap of getting so full of her songs and herself that they feel forced or contrived. In an Indi scene crawling with guitar playing chanteuses with sex appeal and little else, Diable is a refreshing exception: she's got the looks and come-hither voice, but backs it up with more-than-adequate playing and songwriting chops, as well as an air-tight band that intuits the right times to step up and let loose, and when to back off and keep the spotlight on the star. She also runs the gamet of vocal expression, easily sliding from bluesy pleas to gutteral moans, just as gamely evoking Pat Benatar ("Not About") as white-blues queen Dusty Springfield ("Sister Sadie"). She occasionally falters ("Accidents") when her voice seemed stretched and taken where it doesn't want to go, but these moments are rare. While the sound and songs pull enough weight to make the album a success, the lyrics provide a welcome change from the nauseating banalities of too many modern singer-songwriters. Although Diable sticks largely to tried-and-true themes of love and heartache, there are no "I'm so alone / I want my baby to come home" duds here - just insightful, entertaining - and refreshingly mature - commentaries and tales. An album that satisfies on its own merits, but also leaves you looking forward to the artist's next offering.
Sounds like southern sexy
It simple....Do you want to hear what it sounds like to exude confident and bluesy Nina Simone-esque sexiness? You do? Good. This is a strong first album and an even better live show. If you have the opportunity to fall in love, see her live and watch just one set. It wont take long.
Wow!
Beautiful voice with a distinct originality in her songwriting. Edgy, bluesy, contemplative, sassy...well written and well performed. Couldn't ask for much more in an album!
