Album Review

The long-awaited debut by Notorious B.I.G.'s successor on Puff Daddy's Bad Boy label, Shyne, follows through on its promise to present a thuggish, hardcore equivalent to the seemingly irreplaceable, deceased gangsta superstar. From the opening monologue ("Dear America, I'm only what you made me/Young, black, and f*cking crazy/Maybe if all you n****s were building schools instead of prisons, I'd stop living the way I'm living/Probably not/I'm so used to serving rocks and burning blocks"), there's little denying that Shyne is trying to be what his audience wants him to be: the hardest rapper yet, harder than 2Pac, Biggie, and DMX. Although this is merely on a par with other here-today, gone-tomorrow post-Biggie Bad Boy releases like Black Rob's Life Story (1999) and G. Dep's Child of the Ghetto (2001), Shyne's efforts here are indeed commendable, particularly considering the precedent he's following.

Raw and Real one of rap's finest

One of the best rap cds ever made, and definetly Shyne at his best. I love this dude's style, straight raw and real. Not to mention hes got real flow unlike these fake rappers on MTV. Support real like Shyne and let the fake die and disappear.

Shyne is the one and only

Shyne the next 50 cent? Don't even put those two names together. Shyne is true to the way he raps, but 50 cent had to get ja rule out the game till he was able to change his style into that candy shop crap. Plus this album was out before 50 cent even turned mainstream with his gatorade commericical music video. The only reason why Shyne is in jail cuz p.diddy turned on him and shyne jus had to get a little pay back. :) He raps the way rap should be

Keep Ya Head Up

For A Debut Album, Shyne Is Now In Prison Before It Came Out And It Didn't Sell Well So Now Shyne Is Struggling To Make A Hit But The Singles ''Bad Boyz'',Bonnie & Shyne & That's Gangsta At Least Help Him Sell To Get A Gold. But Good luck if he gets outta Prison.

Biography

Born: 1979 in Belize

Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap

Years Active: '90s, '00s, '10s

Immortalized by a much-publicized legal skirmish that resulted in a stiff ten-year prison sentence (and an acquittal for co-defendant Puff Daddy), Shyne was well-known among the public before Bad Boy Records even released his debut — which was, for many years, his only — album. That album charted well, thanks in part to all the media attention he'd garnered over the years, and he showcased a remarkable talent for rapping despite his young-twentysomething...
