Album Review
The Boston-based trio Dispatch is a band in every sense of the word. Swapping instruments and sharing the vocal responsibilities give the group peerless versatility. Wicked acoustic guitars, playful bongos, and resplendent harmonies proliferate Silent Steeples. The consistency of the album is its greatest attribute, which also makes it difficult to pick one song over another as a standout track. "Hey Hey" exemplifies the band's ability to harmonize for emotional emphasis. "Flying Horses" serves as a vehicle for intricate time changes and a catchy chorus. "Elias" opens with Zimbabwean lyrics and then goes on to showcase Chad Urmston's mastery on the bongos. Dispatch has developed a loyal underground following through touring, word of mouth, and the Internet, further dispelling the need for major-label promotion to create an audience. This album will be most appreciated by those who enjoy the jam band sound when it's in the hands of skilled musicians. [This version of the album includes bonus material.]
Customer Reviews
The first of their great line of albums
Silent Steeples, Dispatch's first album. So great, they started off playing acoustic and as they progressed they moved more into electric, giving it more of that rock, reggae and funk feel that Dispatch fans have come to know and love, but always sticking to the roots of it all still playing some songs in acoustic which Dispatch fans love as well. I highly recommend this, and all the other Dispatch albums and keep an eye out for their final album coming out some time in Feb! (Its the soundtrack to their documentary) Note: Check all the album lists on Itunes, they have some songs that wernt released on the normal editions of the CDs!
Silent Steeples = the most honest, beautiful, true parts of life
This album has meant more to me over the years than any other album. I won't lie and say that the members of Dispatch are the best musicians or songwriters to ever live. I will say that these songs are beautiful in their own right. They are often simple - but that is where their genius comes from. Melodic and heartfelt, there's a song here for however you're feeling. If you have air and your lungs and blood in your veins this album will effect you. The lyrics are honest, real, and true, the guitar and vocal harmonies compelling and full, and the drum beats eclectic and free.
Dispatch's most amazing album
I have been listening to Dispatch for two years and I also own Gut The Van and All Points Bulletin which are good two disk sets but this CD is the best. Some of the songs can only be found on this disk and they all sound amazing. I was very pleased with this CD and would recommend it to new fans and old fans because it rocks.
