The Deadstring Brothers perform a brand of blazing country-rock that will bring to mind the style and swagger of early-70s-era Stones and Faces, with overlapping slashing guitars, meaty licks, and full-throated harmony vocals. They’re a skilled sextet with just the right amount of studied sloppiness and a palpable passion for what they do. There are rockers galore on Silver Mountain, their third release, notably “Ain’t No Hidin’ Love” and “Queen of the Scene,” plus some heart-tugging, tears-in-your-beer ballads like the title tune and “Slow Down,” which sounds as if it should be blaring from some dusty honky-tonk somewhere. There’s good chemistry among the band and their sound is loose and energetic, filled with great slide guitar, pedal steel, Hammond organ, and piano that all add up to a rich and delightfully derivative mix that is best played loud.

Fantastic

I'm so glad I found this band. This album and the previous are PHENOMINAL. The first time I listened to this I sat there with my mouth gaping open, which I can't recall ever doing. This music is right up my alley and this album is solid, solid, solid rocking from start to finish. If you like The Black Crowes, Drive-By Truckers, The Stones, The Band, or any dirty straight up rock and roll or blues trust me these guys will not disappoint

True grit

Another rollicking set of tunes from the Deadstrings. Masha is more front and center on vocals and brings some real soul. Meet Me Down and Queen of the Scene could have been on Exile on Main Street or Let it Bleed by that band with the tongue logo. Seriously, good stuff from a band that called the Motor City once home. And who let's that gritty soul shine from within. Worth the listen.

all you need to know is that the music has been compared in tone and temper to exile era stones, and it most surely is. exile was the last stones album i bought. no the songs aren't immediate classics like every song on let bleed or most of the songs on the other great 3: beggar's banquet, sticky fingers, and exile but it's nice to hear someone take up that particular torch.
