Great album.
I got this album based on a recommendation and was pleasantly surprised to find it extremely listenable. I have listened to the album dozens of times at this point and haven't tired of it. The lyrics are catchy but not "poppy", there is substance behind the words. The tunes have a nice tempo that works well with the lyrics. A folksier BNL is how I would describe them. Would highly recommend giving the album a chance. Looking forward to another album in the future.
Really strong debut
I really like melodic, acoustic rock, and SIMPLE MATH definitely hits the mark. The songs are catchy and the lyrics intelligent and interesting. Real Jane has a good live show - I've seen them play in Chicago - and I'm glad that their music is now available on iTunes. A great album at a great price; highly recommended.
Catchy, well-crafted acoustic rock – a great debut album
After seeing them play the Chicago club scene for the last couple years, The Real Jane Martin’s debut album doesn’t disappoint. “Simple Math” pairs poetic, thoughtful lyrics with great vocals, intricate guitar work and solid arrangements. The songs are mature and well-crafted, ranging in theme from reminiscing about a college romance to people seeking escape from their day-to-day lives to a tongue-in-cheek “lullaby” love song about finding balance. TRJM’s use of keyboards, percussion and fuller harmonies is a departure from their live show, which transitions nicely from stage to studio. All in all, this is a great debut and, hopefully, a sign of even better things to come.
