iTunes Review

A quarter century into her recording career, Wynonna reasserts herself as one of country music’s great song stylists on Sing Chapter 1. Producers Brent Maher and Don Potter have helped her fashion an album that sounds both challenging and completely appropriate to her natural style. Wynonna tackles an assortment of (mostly) vintage country, pop, and R&B tunes with palpable vigor and innate Southern elegance. She turns up the heat on “That’s How Rhythm Was Born” (a rollicking ‘30s-style girl group number), “I’m a Woman” (a funky feminist declaration), and “I Hear You Knocking” (the classic Smiley Lewis blues tune, spurred on by hot slide guitar). Even better is her brooding take on Hank Williams’ immortal “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and her heart-tugging reading of Burt Bacharach’s “Anyone Who Had a Heart.” She transforms the album’s title song (by Rodney Crowell) into a personal anthem. There are no false moves or flubbed opportunities here — Wynonna makes good on her ambition and turns Sing into a celebration of both America’s musical traditions and her own evergreen talent.

Classics Done Right!

First, the choice of songs is quite amazing. Going back as far as the 1930's to modern times and capturing the many different genres of music makes this album quite unique. What puts this album over the top is her voice. Singing ballads, rock, bluegrass, country and pop in the style and tone she has done is simply beautiful. I'm looking forward to "Sing Chapter 2".

Freaking amazing once again

Juddstanding! It is a beautifully crafted collection of songs enhanced by Wynonna's incredible vocals. I have heard many versions of "Women Be Wise" from Bonnie Raitt, Sippy Wallace and other blues artists. Wynonna's version is just as incredible with an awesome bluesy feel. I love that Wynonna did a remake of "Ain't No Sunshine" what a beautiful song. And if I am not mistaking, Wynonna's voice sounds stronger and clearer than ever. What I particularly like about this cd is that Wynonna's vocals are way out front as they should be.

WOW! This new CD is more then words can describe! Way to go Wy!

Wy, how does she do it? I was prepared for something a bit different with this CD. I knew I would like it cuz hey it is Wynonna, but this new album is absolutely fantastic. Wy's range, soul, passion, purety and overall voice is just phenominal. I love how she takes a song and makes it her own. The soul in her voice is something you just don't here very often. I was happy to see the title was Sing Chapter 1. I have hopes for many more chapters to come! Can't wait to see her in concert with the new songs and of course all her awesome standards. NO ONE CAN SING LIKE WY! Congrats to her!
