Music that will delight kids and adults alike

Look, I know cover songs. I'm a big fan of material where an artist takes a song that inspires them, and does a rendition that truly makes it their own. And I love this album! Certainly a mellower mix, which you might not expect from an album with covers of Electric Light Orchestra, The Smiths, and The Violent Femmes.

The songs picked work beautifully together, and the end result is a disc with an eclectic mix of indie musicians whose music may certainly relax you, but won't put you to sleep!

Simply Wonderful & Highly Recommended!!!

This unique collection of beautifully recorded songs is wonderful. From the gorgeous opening track 'Asleep' by Stars to the heart-melting closing track 'Rainbow Connection' by Trespassers William, "Sing Me To Sleep" is a whimsical and endearing listen worthy of every praise. Tanya Donelly croons 'Moon River' as a bluesy/jazzy ballad, Jenny Owen Youngs turns 'Have You Forgotten' into an acoustic triumph, Telekinesis' John Lennon-esque cover of ELO's 'Can't Get It Out Of My Head' is simply brilliant. The Rest does the almost impossible covering "Pure Imagination" with such playfulness and confident musicianship, the original pales in comparison. Neil Halstead has equal success with Kate Bush's 'Cloudbusting.' Dala's sparse production on 'Dream A Little Dream Of Me' allows the strength of the vocals to shine... Winner! Both 'Little Boxes' and 'Inchworm' are fun, upbeat and make for playful listening. Snowbird's lovely 'The North Wind Doth Blow' is one of the most beautiful lullabies I’ve ever heard. Luna-alums Dean & Britta's 'Making Me Smile' does just that--makes me smile. The Beatles 'Dear Prudence' gets an eerie-work over by Casey Mecija giving the song an otherworld, dream-like quality... Kudos! O+S take on Chris Bell's "You And Your Sister" and the result is blissful. Included here (but not on my physical CD) are two bonus tracks which I haven't had as much time with just yet; 'Kiss Off' by Say Hi, and Erik Satie classic 'Gymnopedie' covered by Coctails. Both excellent and I'm sure over the next several days they'll join the others as favorites. As a mother of three children under 10 years old, I've purchased every imaginable children CD. "Sing Me To Sleep" is by far one of the most enjoyable... and my children agree. As a matter of fact, my youngest daughter (3 years old) refuses to listen to Kenny Loggins version of 'Rainbow Connection' any longer as she much prefers Trespassers William version. I think that speaks for itself. : )

Exceptional Album for Adults Too!!!

I've never posted a review on iTunes before but this album is fantastic and I had to share my enthusiasm. First off, I do not have children. I'm a huge Tanya Donelly fan so initially I was only going to buy "Moon River". But after previewing a few songs I decided to buy "Cloudbusting", "Have You Forgotten", "Kiss Off", and "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" too. I've been listening all week and finally decided I must complete the album. I'm glad I did. "Little Boxes", "Pure Imagination", and "Inchworm" have become new favorites. "You And Your Sister", "North Wind" and "Asleep" are absolutely beautiful. The album as a whole works on every level. I cannot recommend it enough. I visited the labels website and all proceeds go to a charity that provides health care for children with cancer. Knowing this makes me appreciate the album even more. I just ordered a few copies to give as gifts for my sisters, and some friends who have children. Buy this album -- you won't regret it.
